Authorities investigating apparent suicide at a Joplin park

A teenager is dead after apparently shooting herself at Roanoke Park in Joplin.

The Joplin Police Department says the family transported the 16 year old to 3rd and Virginia, which is where METS met the family and then took her to Freeman Hospital.

The incident occurred Sunday evening and authorities say an investigation is underway.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

As a matter of policy we generally do not report suicides.  We made an exception in this case because it happened in a public place.
