
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team made its season debut in the 2013 NCAA Division II Central Region Top 10 Poll released by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Monday (Mar. 18).
The Gorillas debuted in a tie for 10th place in Monday's poll. Central Missouri received all eight first-place votes and 80 points in the poll, followed by by St. Cloud State (72), Missouri Western (55), Southern Arkansas (54) and Arkansas Tech (52).
Positions six through 10 went to Minnesota State (47), Central Oklahoma (29), Mary (16), Henderson State (12), Harding (6) and Pitt State (6).
The Gorillas, under first-year head coach Matt Murray, are 11-6 overall and 8-5 in the MIAA. Pitt State, which took two of three games from Southwest Baptist last week, currently sits in fourth place in the MIAA standings.
The Central Region includes the MIAA, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Great American Conference.
The Gorillas travel to Emporia, Kan., Wednesday (Mar. 20) to face Emporia State (10-12, 8-9 MIAA) in a 3 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader.
