Deaths near Asbury ruled an apparent murder-suicide

Updated March 20, 2013: The Jasper County Sheriff's Office says the bodies found on Tuesday near Asbury was an apparent murder-suicide.

Sheriff Randee Kaiser tells us a deputy was flagged down Tuesday morning by a concerned person who had not heard from the residents of the home for quite a while.

The deputy and another officer went to the home where they found two people dead inside.

It was determined that Richard Hughes, 58, and his wife, Janet Hughes, had each died from single gun shot wounds to the head.

Investigators say it appears that Richard shot his wife and then shot himself inside the home.

Posted March 19, 2013:  Jasper County deputies were contacted this morning regarding two deceased persons found at a location on County Road 290 near Asbury.

Sheriff Randee Kaiser confirms they were called at about 9:15 this morning and says it is to early in the investigation to determine the exact circumstances.

Sheriff Kaiser says neighbors called because they were worried about the man and woman who lived at the residence.

More information will be posted as it is confirmed.
