USGIF awards geospatial intelligence certificates to students from its accredited schools.
Herndon, Virginia (PRWEB) March 21, 2013
The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) presented 125 geospatial intelligence certificates to students who completed course requirements from USGIF’s accredited collegiate programs for the 2012 academic year.
Since the program’s start, USGIF has awarded certificates to 257 individuals from six of its accredited schools, which include George Mason University, Pennsylvania State University, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Military Academy at West Point, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and the University of Texas at Dallas. Completing all of the collegiate course requirements within a USGIF-accredited school earns students a certificate and provides them with the essential skills and qualifications for a career path in the GEOINT Community.
“The program launched in 2007 to address a growing need for well-prepared GEOINT analysts among the USGIF-member community. GEOINT is a multidisciplinary field, and USGIF accreditation is designed to enable students from a wide array of STEM disciplines to augment their existing expertise with complementary analytical capabilities using geospatial data and technologies," said USGIF Academic Director, Dr. Max Baber.
USGIF accreditation also provides quality assurance to employers. The certificate affirms students are meeting the standards required to be successful in a GEOINT-related profession. USGIF provides guidance to and external review of a growing number of collegiate geospatial intelligence certificate programs throughout the country in response to the increasing demand for qualified personnel in the GEOINT community.
“The GEOINT certificate program has vastly increased my knowledge across a number of topics and tools in the geospatial spectrum,” said Penn State graduate, Mark Smith. “The skill set I acquired throughout the program has allowed me to become a standout candidate for many job opportunities in the GEOINT field.”
