It's officially Spoonbill fishing season in the Spoonbill capital of Oklahoma!
The rainy start didn't bother some fisherman who tried their luck at catching the state fish at the Riverview Park in Miami.
Spoonbill fishing draws a large amount of business to the area, because the Neosho River is one of the few places you can fish from the bank. The Miami Fire Department provided free hamburgers to those who attended.
Officials say some look forward to opening season all year and hope with warmer days, they will see more people along the banks.
"You can probably compare spoonbill season to the opening day of trout season, because people line up elbow to elbow the river banks over here at the park. You have to snag them. They don't bite, so it's a different mentality I guess" says sports marketing coordinator Shannon Thomas.
Many fisherman said they didn't have much luck in the rain catching a fish, but they said they'll still be back to try again.
