Missouri bill would allow pharmacists to refill some prescriptions without a doctor's order

Updated:

A bill passed by the Missouri senate would allow pharmacists to fill small prescription refills for emergency medication without a doctor's order.

Under the measure pharmacists could give a patient medication if there is reasonable risk of harm if the patient stops taking it.

The patient must also have previously had the same prescription filled at that location.

The medication can not be a controlled substance and the pharmacy must let the doctor who prescribed it know after the emergency refill.
