For the first time in school history the Cottey Comets in Nevada, Missouri have a softball field on campus. The school held a ceremony to open up the new facility on Friday.
It was all made possible thanks to a large donation from philanthropist Dorothy Vanek. It will be called Vanek Memorial Field in memory of her daughters.
For Dorothy Vanek seeing the field complete and in use is a dream come true.
"I was just very, very proud of how it all turned out and I've seen ideas and plans," says Vanek. "It was real nice to see the finish."
A double-header had been scheduled for Friday but was called off because of weather conditions.
