Joplin company being sued for allegedly dumping tornado debris in abandoned mine shaft

The Missouri Attorney General is suing a Joplin company for allegedly dumping tornado debris into an abandoned mine shaft.

On Monday Attorney General Chris Koster announced the suit against Bryan Weldon and Weldon Contractors and Construction LLC.

The suit claims the waste was dumped into an abandoned mine shaft near Neck City in Jasper County.

The attorney general is asking for a civil penalty and an injunction against further dumping.

Weldon claims a city official gave him permission to dump tornado debris at the site.
