Southeast School District shows off new STEM curriculum

Updated:

Southeast USD 247 in Cherokee is hosting an open house Thursday for its STEM curriculum to showcase projects the students have completed and new products coming for the kids.

USD 247 Pitsco STEM Education curriculum focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

One of the new technologies is a Now Robot, which is designed for 7th through 12th graders.  The students write programs for it to teach students in kindergarten through 6th grades.

"We are looking to set ourselves up as a technology STEM hub for southeast Kansas," says USD 247 Superintendent Dr. Glenn Fortmayer.  "This is a great opportunity to show the investment we have put into our kids and our staff, and the public will come and view the returns that so far we have generated."

The robotics program is made possible through a grant put together by the district, Pitsco Corp. and U.S. Civil Air Patrol.
