2013 Everyday Heroes unveiled in Joplin

Updated:

The American Red Cross unveiled its 2013 Everyday Heroes on Friday:

  • Cookie Estrada - Executive Director Joplin YMCA
  • Terrie Dresh - Teacher, Joplin Middle School
  • Cooper Vocelka - Student, Joplin High School
  • Abi Almandinger - Leader for Creative Memories
  • 1SG Richard Banks - JROTC Teacher - Joplin High School
  • Aimee Danner - Founder, Moving Mountains Inc.
  • Joplin Fire Department

The Red Cross doesn't normally honor a group but says the Joplin Fire Department was named a Hero for its dedications and heroism to the community over the past year while recovering and rebuilding from the tornado.

The fire chief says it's an honor.

"I feel like it's really an opportunity for the crews that have sacrificed and given so much to this city over the last couple years to be recognized for their efforts," says Joplin Fire Chief Mitch Randles.  "A lot of these are sacrifices that are not seen every day that most people don't recognize go on."
