The Pittsburg community is taking care of some residents in need.
Pittsburg State University student's kicked off their annual "Big Event" and the purpose is to give back to the community that gives to the university and its students.
About 900 students worked at numerous sites across the city. The Hearts and Hammer organization also participated. Students were able to help a resident with yard work, painting and they even built the resident a new porch.
"We do we have quite a few students we have students from the construction we have students from the big event and its good to see this interactions from pittsburg state university and the members from our community" says Michael Gray of Hearts and Hammer.
"It does and it feels good when people help you" says volunteer Julie Lienerd.
The event is sponsored by the university's students government.
