Gorillas, Tritons Split Non-Conference Twinbill

Updated:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday (Apr. 9).

The Gorillas dropped a 3-0 decision to the Tritons in game one, before claiming a 7-2 win in the nightcap.

Pitt State (20-14) out-hit UMSL, 6-3, in the opener but the Gorillas were unable to push across any runs. The Tritons plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and rode that early lead to the win.

Brad Foss went 1-for-1 with a pair of sacrifice hits to lead the Pitt State offensive in the opener.

In game two, Eric Hansen (4-1) scattered 10 hits in the complete-game win. Pitt State scored four runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth to build a 7-0 lead.

Tory Stoffregen scored a pair of runs, while Jacoby Martin had two RBI. Ryan Ventura also went 2-for-4 in the contest.

Pitt State will travel to Jefferson City, Mo., Saturday (Apr. 13) to open a three-game MIAA series against Lincoln University.
