The state of Oklahoma has designated the Coleman Theatre beautiful as the Premiere Vaudeville Theatre of the state of Oklahoma.
The Coleman Theatre opened in 1929 as a big city style theatre complete with shops and a ballroom.
In the 1980's it deteriorated significantly and over time volunteers, supporters and the city of Miami worked to restore the theatre.
It is the only Premier Vaudeville Theatre in Oklahoma.
"The joy of it is revealing it to people and having our seats filled with audiences sharing a great performance and they come in as individuals and they leave as a group because they have had this shared experience and that's what theatre is about," says Barbara Smith, the Executive Director of the Coleman Theatre.
The most recent addition to the theatre, a ballroom, is used for conferences, banquets and a number of other functions.
