Your chance to be a Salvation Army HERO

Joplin area businesses, schools and organizations are being asked to wear The Salvation Army HERO shirt on Friday, May 3rd to support their mission.

Participating businesses and groups are assigning a Team Leader to takeorders and money ($10/shirt).  Every dollar donated to the Joplin Salvation Army stays in Joplin to support our local programs.

In 2012, the Salvation Army served more than 70,000 meals and more than 800 families received Christmasassistance.  More than 2,600 families received utility assistance.

The Joplin Salvation Army says they plan to build a new thrift store and multipletransitional housing units.

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
