The Missions Committee of Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg hosted a food drive on Wednesday to collect items for the Wesley House food pantry.
It's called the Hope in a Box drive and donations were matched dollar per pound by the Feinstein Foundation.
Organizers say the food donations are needed because food prices rise in the summer and Wesley House has a summer program to help children who have limited food options. But last year they ran short on food after just the first couple days.
"To me, I think that the community needs it and I think that it's very nice that we can all help our fellow persons as they need it," says housekeeper June Shipman.
"We thought this would be a good way to serve our community, by giving back to our community by collecting food, some things that kids can easily fix at home for the summer," says Joanna Hughes of the Via Christi Mission Committee.
You can donate at the hospital throughout the month of April.
