Neosho Christian School students are a step closer to getting to join teams at Neosho public schools.
Neosho Christian Schools have just 88 students in grades K through 12, including 20 high schoolers. So creating teams for sports is something that happens only in fun on the playground.
But now an application is being sent to the Missouri State High School Athletic Association, MSHAA, to open all teams at the public schools to players at Neosho Christian. Officials say it's important all students get the opportunity to play and Neosho Christian says with no gym and small numbers it's not possible there.
"We just don't have the facilities to be able to do some of it, we may never have enough students to put a football team together, or baseball teams, softball teams," says Neosho Christian Superintendent Lawrence Sanders.
Students would not be eligible for next fall's football or basketball teams which require a December application, but all other sports would be covered if the application before May 1 is approved by MSHAA.
