Missouri's annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday week began Friday and ends Thursday April 25.
Through the week state sales tax is exempt on Energy Star appliances. Those appliances include clothing and dish washers, air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers.
According to government statistics appliances account for about 17% of a home's energy consumption.
However, the sale tax exemption only applies to the first $1,500 of a purchase. So if you buy an Energy Star appliance that exceeds that amount you will be charged sales tax on the rest of the purchase amount.
