There's a new park in Joplin intended to bring back even more happiness that was there before the tornado. Members of the South Joplin Christian Church took lots that were damaged by the tornado and turned them into a recreational area. There's a picnic structure playground, and plans are to also build an outdoor movie screen to show movies in the park.
"There is some great parks, just not necessarily in this neighborhood, so we made the decision to take the houses down and create a space that we hope wouldn't be just for us, but would be for our neighborhood and our community," says Senior Pastor Jill Michel at South Joplin Christian Church.
Church members say in addition to giving their money for the park, there were gifts of time and money from everyone who responded to the May 22nd disaster.
