Police and truck drivers talk about the importance of safe driving as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Con-way Truckload hosted an event on Tuesday with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and American Trucking Association to help spread the word about safe driving, and it's not just about texting and driving.
The highway patrol has a campaign called "Gone too soon."
"Whether you're eating, whether you're talking to another passenger, whether ladies putting on makeup, there's a laundry list of different things, but what we see is maybe not seeing what they're doing inside the vehicle, but we're watching their vehicle and whether it's crossing the center line, going over onto the shoulder," says Sgt. Mike Watson of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
During this month police will be on special patrols to look for drivers who appear to be distracted.
