Thousands of cars fill the streets of Carl Junction, for the city wide rummage sale.
Shoppers came hoping to find items for a fraction of the regular cost. Homes across the city placed garage sale signs hoping to attract buyers to their sales. Many businesses including the Carl Junction Senior Center held events like craft and bake sales for the visitors.
The C.J.H.S. bulldog mascot drove around , handing out maps and free gifts from chamber members.
Officials say the best part about the day is keeping the money in the local economy.
"This is great for the Carl junction community because it brings several thousand people to town, of course they shop in our convenience store, get gas and hit the ATM's, hit the restaurants, they spend the day. And it also helps the people that are selling, so the money stays in our local economy" Chamber President Gary Stubblefield.
The chamber also utilized social media tools to announce when and where the bulldog made appearances at chamber businesses and neighborhood sales.
