Pittsburg Community Garden receives Live Well Apple Award

Updated:

The Pittsburg Community Garden received the 2013 Live Well Apple Award on Monday.

Live Well Crawford County presented the award at the Garden.  The Award recognizes individuals and businesses that positively impact the health and wellness of Crawford County.

The Pittsburg Community Garden grows food for people in need.  Among other things since 2009, the Garden has donated a total of 28,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Wesley House's Southeast Kansas food pantry.

"The award is amazing just because the Live Well group is doing a great job to promote healthy activities throughout the whole community and that's exactly what we are going to do out here at the garden," says head gardener Matt Troth.

The Pittsburg Community Garden donated 10,000 pounds of food last year.

The award is given each year by Live Well Crawford County.
