Seneca Garage Sale Benefits Library

Updated:

A Seneca Missouri city wide garage sale benefits a local Newton County library.

Booths were set up inside Seneca Missouri's junior high school gym. Vendors paid 20 dollars for to rent a booth, selling everything from handbags to antiques, all to raise money to keep the Seneca library open.

The Newton County Library System has wanted to close the location due to budget limits, but after petitions and public outcry, the library board will keep it open till at least December this year.

Chamber officials think its needed and are working to help pay operating costs.

"People that have dropped in donations into our box here and given extra money even at our concessions, 100% of the proceeds are going towards it from the concessions, people are just giving extra donations because even they realize it or their grandkids might utilize it or what have you" says chamber President Josh Dodson.

The chamber says they'd like to thank everyone who brought items to donate and that they plan on having the fundraiser again next year.
