Moutz sentenced

PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

Updated February 27, 2015:  From the Crawford County Attorney - Carla Moutz, 53, of Pittsburg, was sent to prison this morning for close to 14 years (167 months) for her second degree murder and aggravated assault convictions for the death of John Moutz Sr. The Court ordered the defendant to serve the aggravated number of 154 months on second degree murder and the aggravated number of 13 months on the aggravated assault to run consecutively.

Authorities were called to a home on the 500 block of West 6th Street shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday.

John Moutz, 49, was taken to Via Christi Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.  He later died.

His wife, Carla Moutz, 51, was taken into custody.

She was set to appear in court Friday afternoon and has already been charged with first degree murder.  Her bond has been set at $250,000.

Detectives say they are still asking for people who knew this couple to contact police.

"There are some neighbors in the area we were unable to make contact with last night," says Pittsburg Police Detective Cris Hatcher.  "We encourage anybody who may have heard or seen anything to contact us at their earliest convenience so that we can collect the information from them."

Police say early investigations show the couple had a nonphysical domestic dispute.

 

Updated May 10, 2013 at 12:05 PM CST:  A Southeast Kansas woman is facing murder charges after police say she shot her husband last night.

Authorities were called to a home on the 500 block of West 6th Street shortly before 8 p.m.

The Pittsburg Police Department was called to a home on the 500 block of West Sixth Street at 7:20 Thursday evening.

Police tell us 49-year-old John Moutz was taken to Via Christi Hospital with a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead.

Investigators say they have a woman in custody in connection with the shooting.

We'll have more as information becomes available.
