The Pittsburg Fire Department will be starting the testing process of our fire hydrants on Monday, May 13, 2013.
The City of Pittsburg currently has 1,277 fire hydrants. The annual testing of hydrants is necessary to make sure that the hydrants are operational, maintained and for the engineering calculations for fire suppression systems.
It will take approximately three months to complete the testing of our 1,277 fire hydrants. We have divided our city into eight zones. These zones are divided by the following streets. Broadway divides the city in half East and West. 20th Street, 4th Street, and Quincy Street divide the city into the eight zones North and South with four zones being on the West side of Broadway and four zones being on the East side of Broadway. We will start in far Southeast section of Pittsburg and work north to the City limits. After that we will continue in the Northwest section and work south until we finish in the Southwest section.
