A local official is being honored for his hard work with a big award.
Mayor Randy Jones of Mulberry, Kansas has been awarded the prestigious honor of Mayor of The Year from the Kansas Mayors Association.
"I was excited and speechless. That never happens to me" says Jones.
Jones beat out 634 mayors across the state for the title. His coworkers found out early Wednesday that Jones had won the award, but had to keep it secret until the ceremony in Topeka. Family and friends say there's no better person more deserving of the award than Jones.
"If he hadn't have gotten the award, he's still number one to us" says city clerk Tammy Wyland.
"As a dad, not only is he my dad but he's my best friend" says Jones' son Alex Jones.
The town of Mulberry celebrated Jones' award with a cookout. He will also be honored at Mulberry's orange and black night on May 24th.
