Katy Days attractions announced

Parsons KS – The Katy Days boardrecently announced there will be a mix of old and new attractions for thisyear's annual Katy Days festival. The board stated they are looking for abalance between traditional attractions while throwing in new exciting familyoriented events. One of the new attractions will be a helicopter ride. Thehelicopter will take passengers site seeing over Forest Park.  Ticketswill be available one block east of Heacock on the dike near the LCC softballfield.  The ride will cost $35 per person and the helicopter can havethree passengers at a time.  They will be available for rides Friday at 3p.m. and again Saturday at 11a.m.

As in the pastevery there will be musical acts as the event welcomes Saucy Jack and MustangSally this year to the Katy Days Main Stage. Saucy Jack is a Kansas City,Missouri band that will take the stage at 6 p.m. Following them at 8:30p.m.is Mustang Sally an all girl band from Nashville, Tennessee. "Mustang Sally wasa great act, they are really exciting and full of energy" Parsons residentLaura Lambert said about the upcoming band.

A new familyfriendly event this year is a Classic Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Cruise Night.The cruise night will be held on Friday May 24 and all participants will meetat Forest Park near the North East corner. If you own a classic car, truck,and/or, motorcycle come enjoy the Friday evening cruise you are then invited tojoin the fun during the parade on Saturday May 25. Participants for the paradewill line up at Marvel Park on Saturday at 9a.m. For more information about thecruise night please call Eddy Waggoner at 620-423-9354. "We are always lookingfor unique entries for the parade and trying to find enough bands is also a challengesince school is already out" said Jonna Gabbert, Director of PR, Marketing andEvents for the Parsons Chamber of Commerce. Another newaddition is the introduction of three different collectable coins they areavailable as a bundle or individually. These collector coins are a perfectsouvenir for any member of the family. Each coin has a different design on themthat commemorates the Katy Railroad heritage. These coins will sellindividually for ten dollars or as a bundle for twenty five dollars.

Again this yearthe Parsons Chamber of Commerce will be hosting another Katy Days favorite, theTrash Barrel Art Contest. The winner of the contest will be announced onSaturday, May 26 at 3 p.m. on the mainstage of forest park. Those looking to enter should register with the Chamberof Commerce and pick up their barrel at Trotnic Recycling. One of the mosttalked about events from the past will make another appearance this year as theKaty Days Got Talent competition once again hits the main event stage. Theevent is a talent contest that will have prelims on Friday evening from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The finals will be held at 3 p.m. at the same location. The Grand Prize forwinning the competition is $400. Money is also awarded to second, third andfourth places.

These new eventswill join the more traditional Katy Days events filling Forest Park includingthe "miniature train" rides, a "Gandy Dancer" track laying demonstration, theMiss Katy Queen Coronation, an array of food venders, a beer garden, live musicand a number of children's activities. The festivities conclude on Sunday withthe very traditional Church in the Park non-denominational service.
