Storms Sirens undergoing repairs in Parsons

Updated:

News release issued by the City of Parsons:

Due to some electronic issues with the transmission system on the storm sirens, the Parsons Outdoor Storm Warning Sirens are NOT functioning properly. The City is asking residents, including guests at Lake Parsons, to use an alternate source of notification for severe weather alerts. Do not rely on the sirens to go off in the event of severe weather, until further notice.

"Repair crews are working on a fix but knowing there is a chance for severe weather this weekend, we want our residents to be prepared," said Kari West, City of Parsons Public Information Officer. "We are encouraging residents with cell phones that accept text messaging to sign up for the Wireless Emergency Notification System."

The WENS System sign-up can be found online at http://www.parsonspd.com/18501.html or stop by the Municipal Building and complete a form. In addition, residents should listen to the local radio stations and/or local TV stations, or purchase a NOAA weather radio for instant weather messages.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work hard to get them fixed as soon as possible.
