A day of triumph for some high school students in Pittsburg.

Smiles on a lot of faces at Pittsburg High School for the graduation ceremony. 166 graduates walked across the stage. Family and friends gathered for the ceremony which was held in the high school's gymnasium.

Freeman Health System's Chief Executive Officer Paula Baker, class of 1976, was honored at the graduation, by being given the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award is selected by a committee involving the USD 250 Foundation, students and administration.

"We are honored to be able to recognize Paula Baker with this award," USD 250 Foundation President Carol Wimmer said.

    A 19-year-old pleaded guilty today (Sept. 24, 2018) to second degree burglary after breaking into a Joplin bar. On December 18th, 2017, Joplin Police responded to Equality Rocks Bar (532 S. Joplin) for a motion alarm from inside the business. Authorities say an officer heard banging from inside the business as other officers arrived and surrounded the building.     Carthage Man Dies from Injuries Suffered in Crash

    The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened on September 18th, 2018 around 7:30 a.m. about 1/2 mile east of Carthage. According to the report, 66-year-old Mark Brewer was driving a Toyota Camry on E.Chestnut St. when he rear-ended a John Deer tractor. The tractor ran off the right side of the roadway. Brewer was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield where he died from his injuries on September 21st. Brewer's passenger, Julie Winter, was taken to Mercy Hospita...
