Updated:

College expenses are no longer a worry for a Miami, Oklahoma high school student named a Gates Millennium Scholarship Winner.

Steven Boyd will attend Oklahoma University with all expenses paid.  He's the seventh Miami High School student to win the prestigious scholarship given to 1,000 students nationwide.

Current Miami chemistry teacher Coldaro Baldwin was a previous winner.

Steven submitted a long application with eight essays.  He also has a high ACT score and was captain of the wrestling team.

"It's awesome, it's great pressure taken off of me to focus on school and not worry about money and get an education," says Boyd.

"We pushed him and he stepped up to the plate, we wish everybody would challenge himself like Steven has challenged himselfMillenniumamie Stephens, who teaches MHS AP literature and language.

Jamie says Stephen took a rigorous course load helping him earn high ACT scores.

The Gates Millenium Scholarship is for minorities.  Stephen is Native American.
