HOPE 4 You presents donation to Mount Carmel Foundation

Updated May 31, 2013 by Jehan SheikhBreast cancer patients and supports gather at a check presentation Friday morning at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation presented a $1,000 check to the Mount Carmel Foundation.

In 2012 the Mount Carmel Foundation gave Via Christi patients $32,439 to help cover expenses for cancer patients.  Last year that included 433 gas cards, 517 supplements of Ensure, and it also covered pharmacy costs for 70 patients.

"As we give assistance to the different Cancer Center patients they are really so appreciative," says senior director Duane Dreiling.  "They are sometimes not sure of how they're going to fill their tanks up with gas and getting that gas card really helps them to get here to receive services."

Hope 4 You holds several fundraising events every year to help with these costs.  The next event is the 6th annual Race 4 hope Breast Cancer 5K run and 1 mile walk.  That is scheduled for Saturday June 8.

PITTSBURG, Kan. (Thursday, May 30, 2013) – Mount Carmel Foundation's support of patients from the Via Christi Cancer Center is overwhelming. Thanks to a donation from the HOPE 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation, Mount Carmel Foundation's mission of supporting patients will continue to be strong.

HOPE 4 You will present a check to the Mount Carmel Foundation for $1,000 on Friday, May 31 at noon inside the Via Christi Cafeteria. The event is open to the entire community and all members of the media.

In the last year, the Mount Carmel Foundation gave $32,439 in support of Via Christi Cancer Center patients. That total includes 433 gas cards to help with travel expenses, along with 517 patients receiving nutritional supplements of Ensure, and another 70 patients financially supported with help for pharmacy costs. The Foundation also provides lodging for families and patients that drive long distances for treatment at the Via Christi Cancer Center.

"We rely on the support of the communities we serve and organizations like HOPE 4 You whewn it comes to serving with concern for our neighbors who are vulnerable," Mount Carmel Foundation Executive Director Duane Dreiling said. "A number of patients treated by the Via Christi Cancer Center need this type of support, and we realize the importance this has for them during their difficult time of battling cancer."

HOPE 4 You began in 2007, and is an acronym for Help, Outreach, Prevent and Educate. While there are many national and international organizations that assist in the eradication of breast cancer, the individuals and corporations who founded Hope 4 You wanted to determine where help can be provided "locally."
