Parsons children's museum gives kids the chance to be a news reporter

Posted:

For any kids who've wondered what it's like to be in news, Curious Minds Discovery Zone in Parsons, Kansas is giving them that opportunity through a new exhibit.

Curious Minds is a non-profit, science and arts based children's museum and on Thursday KOAM's own reporter Jehan Sheikh and photojournalist Hunter Peterson were there to help kick off the exhibit.

The exhibit is called "The Science of News" and will be available throughout the month of June.  Kids are able to look up information to report on, then stand in front of a camera tell their story.

At the museum kids also get the chance to be a doctor, dentist or builder.

Creative Director Shawn Encarnacion says every month they will feature different career themes to give kids a hands-on experience with different professions.

"We want them to see what it looks like for professional person who is curious about the world and goes out and finds out what that professional storyteller does, to find out what's happening in our world and come let the rest of us know," says Encarnacion.  "That in itself is a pretty priceless thing to see and understand."

The museum is $4 per child.  Adults get in free.
