Former Heartland Crime Stoppers treasurer enters plea of not guilty

Updated June 20, 2013:  The former treasurer of Heartland Crime Stoppers appeared in Jasper County court on Thursday.

Matthew Paige, 34, had been employed by Heartland Crime Stoppers from July 2012 through April 2013 and is accused of stealing more than $3,000.

On Thursday Paige entered a plea of not guilty and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 25.

 

Posted June 4, 2013:  The former treasurer of Heartland Crime Stoppers is arrested, accused of stealing thousands from Crime Stopper funds.

Jasper County prosecutors charge the ex-treasurer with felony stealing for the theft of $3,200.

On Monday Joplin Police arrested Matthew Paige, 34, who was employed by Heartland Crime Stoppers from July 2012 through April 2013.

After the executive board discovered inconsistencies it conducted an audit.

As a result the JPD stepped in.
