Joplin Farmer's Market opens

Updated June 5, 2013:  The Joplin Farmer's Market is open for business.  Just a few vendors came to the first Wednesday market but others are planning to join in the weeks ahead.

Among those selling is Erv Langan of Keltoi Winery.  Langan pulled four cases of wines to sell at the market, something new for him but successful for other vineyards.

The city hopes to entice more vendors by waiving all fees, offering free spaces.

Officials say rain has been a problem but more produce and items will come soon.

"Everything from poultry and eggs, we have a honey producer - that will be wonderful," says Becky Brill, the Joplin grant coordinator.  "We also have planted flowers, planted vegetables, herbs, vegetables, fruits, you name it.  I think it's going to be a lovely assortment."

The market is open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday's throughout the summer.

Those interested in selling at the Joplin Farmer's Market should contact Becky Brill with the city at 624-0820, extension 23.  Again, this year there is no fee to be a vendor.
