Auction has around 1,300 lamps - bringing people from across the country

Updated:

A Southeast Kansas estate sale is bringing in lamp enthusiasts from across the country.  The family of Robert and Barbara Joe Evans is auctioning off their lifelong collection of Aladdin lamps this weekend.

That collection adds up to 1,300 lamps.

Auctioneer J.B. Robison says there are two lamps worth up to $4,000.  He says a lot of people are traveling from out of town to get their hands on some unique and rare lamps.

"What amazed me is how many people had been in this building in Chetopa and said 'well Robert had a such and such lamp' or 'he had such and such burner or a finial' that was like - it was like these people knew more about what was in here than the family did really," says Robison.

Saturday's auction begins at 10 a.m. at 1004 West Maple Street in Chetopa, Kansas.
