Partnership between Pepsi Co and Joplin's Habitat for Humanity brings a half million dollars to Joplin.
Thanks to two %250 thousand dollar grants from Pepsi Co, Joplin's Habitat for Humanity will be steadily building homes and sheds for those in need.
The grants assists towns recovering from national disasters. But Pepsi Co is also giving manpower besides money. After a groundbreaking for a new home on Pennsylvania Street, volunteers from Habitat and Pepsi Co began laying the foundation and raising the walls.
A total of 71 homes have been built since the 2011 tornado, thanks to Pepsi Co's previous $250 thousand dollar rebuild grant and officials say the company couldn't be prouder of the rebuild journey.
"Two years seems to go by so quickly, and the fact that we look around and we're pointing out that's a Habitat house, that's a Habitat house, it's just amazing they've been able to make such progress in a short amount of time" says Lisa Tyree with the Frito Lay Midwest region.
Habitat hopes to have the home completed and ready for move in by the end of the summer.
