Public invited to EPA Complete Green Streets design workshops for 20th Street in Joplin

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF JOPLIN

The public is invited to attend two design workshopsfocusing on the green street design that is being planned along the 20thStreet corridor.

The City of Joplin and U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyare hosting these sessions for the public to:

  •  
    • learn about complete/green street design;
    • learn more about opportunities for redevelopment along 20th Street; and
    • to provide input on what complete green street elements should be included in the 20th Street design.

Workshops will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday,June 18 at Harmony Heights Church, 2025 Indiana Avenue; and from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 in the basement conference room of Joplin City Hall,602 South Main. Citizens can participate in the workshop that is mostconvenient for their schedule.

In addition, the project team from EPA and the City will beat Third Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 to talk with thepublic about the draft designs. All are welcome to attend this design viewingas well.

The Complete Green Streets program, an initiative of theEnvironmental Protection Agency, identifies and incorporates alternative designmethods to calm traffic, beautify streets promote sustainable stormwatermanagement techniques, and enhance multi-modal pedestrian traffic throughoutthe corridor.

    The Young Professional Network, a subgroup of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, is taking its mission of encouraging recycling to the Joplin High School construction site. The group arranged for four recycling bins to be placed on site so that furniture companies and other contractors can use them to dispose of cardboard.
