Southern football adds Rodney Freeman to coaching staff

News Release from Missouri Southern State University:

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern football coach Daryl Daye has announced the addition of Rodney Freeman to his coaching staff. Freeman will coach the receivers at Southern.

A native of Houston, Texas, Freeman comes to Southern after serving for a season as the wide receivers and tight ends coach at Western State in Colorado. While there, Freeman was responsible for running and facilitating position meetings, while planning and scripting position segment practices. He also scripted plays for pass skill during practice and game planned and aided in film breakdown with offensive staff, while creating and aiding with the weekly scouting report.

Prior to Western State, Freeman spent a season as the co-offensive coordinator at Lutheran North High School in Houston. He also was the head freshman coach and assistant varsity coach at Eisenhower High School where he led the freshman team to a 9-0-1 record and a district championship.

Freeman played collegiately at both Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin. He helped lead ACU to a conference championship in 2008 as a wide receiver and a backup quarterback.

"Coach Freeman brings a wealth of experience at the wide receiver position," Daye said. "He has playing experience at the Division I and II level and has coached at both the high school and college ranks. He is an excellent young coach and his contacts in Texas will also prove vital in helping with recruiting."
