Safety should be observed when using fireworks

News release from the City of Parsons:

PARSONS, KS — As we approach the Fourth of July holiday,residents are reminded of the Parsons City Ordinances regarding fireworks salesand discharges. Fireworks can only be sold and enjoyed in the city of Parsonsfrom June 30 to July 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

They are not allowed any city-ownedproperty, including parks or streets. The City asks that after your fireworkscelebrations that you dispose of the remnants properly.

In addition, residents should observe some simplewarnings to keep their families and homes safe during the celebrations. Thesetips are provided by the National Council on Fireworks Safety:

  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Obey all local laws
  • Always have waternearby.
  • Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter themor combine them.
  • Never relight a dud firework. Wait 20 minutes and thensoak it in a bucket of water.
  • Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distancefrom the shooter and the shooter should always wear safety glasses.
  • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a designatedshooter.
  • Report illegal explosives to the fire or policedepartment in your community.

The City of Parsonsoffices will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Thursday, July 4. (Trash routes will run on Friday, July 5 in the First Ward.)

The City invites you to celebrate our nation's heritageon the Fourth of July, but celebrate safely.
