Missouri Doctor Shortage - KOAM TV 7

Missouri Doctor Shortage

According to the Association of American Medical Colleges the state of Missouri is facing a shortage of primary care doctors.

Officials say the state has less than 74 active patient care primary care doctors per every 100,000 residents.

Missouri ranks 35th place, falling behind the national average of more than 79 doctors.

When the federal health care law is fully implemented January 1st requiring most Americans to have health insurance, those numbers could grow.
