Cross country runner in Joplin to raise money for Africa

Updated:

Steve Spear is running 3,243 miles to raise money that will provide fresh water to places in Africa.  On Tuesday he made his way to Joplin.

It's part of a campaign called Running for Water - L.A. to New York for Hope in Africa.  The goal is to provide clean water to 30,000 people in Western Kenya called Bartabwa.

The average person there, mainly women and children, have to walk an average of six miles a day just to get contaminated water.

That is why Spear is running.

"As I run I'm thinking about Wenny, I'm thinking about her mom, I'm thinking about thousands of girls and women who mainly are the water carriers," says Steve Spear of Team World Vision.  "So if I can run a few in order to take away a few you know we're kind of going alright that's a good deal."
