House fire near Joplin

A family in Loma Linda, southwest of Joplin, is searching through the rubble after a fire destroyed their home this afternoon.

This is not the first time the Kelley family has lost everything. They were also hit by the May 22, 2011 tornado.

Officials say the fire broke out around 4:00 this afternoon. No one was home at the time of the fire and thankfully, no one was hurt. All pets were rescued as well.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Fire Chief Steve Coats says the fire was difficult to control due to weather conditions.

"The wind played quite a bit in the fire," Coats said. "Number one, it allows it to move faster because the wind is pushing it and number two, our hand lines while we were putting water on the fire, the wind was blowing it as well, so it's making it less effective as far as putting out the fire."

Ignite Church is accepting donations for the family at ignitechurch.tv.  Under the giving tab, you can specify that the donation is for the Kelley family.
