NEWS RELEASE FROM THE COMMUNITY CLINIC:

Community Clinic to Provide Free HIV & STD Tests
on National HIV Testing Day

Joplin, Mo, -- The Community Clinic, in partnership with the Joplin Health Department and the AIDS Project of the Ozarks, will be offering free HIV/AIDS Tests on Thursday, June 27th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.  The free tests will be administered at the Community Clinic, 701 South Joplin Avenue, on a first come, first serve basis and results will be ready within 15 minutes.  The test will also check for other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis.  All testing provided by the Community Clinic is completely confidential.

"We feel that this is a very important service to offer our community," stated Barbara Bilton, Director of the Community Clinic. "With over 280 diagnosed HIV cases in Missouri, it is important that everyone get tested regularly.  Because we already have great working relationships with the AIDS Project of the Ozarks and the Joplin Health Department, it was a natural fit to work with them to provide this service."

National HIV Testing Day was founded by the National Association of People with AIDS in 1995.  There are currently more than one million people living with HIV in the United States and one in five of those are unaware of their infection.
