Missouri Southern recognized for affordability in U.S. News list

NEWS RELEASE FROM MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - A new U.S. News Campus report has named Missouri Southern State University among the top ten of the nation's schools with the most affordable out-of-state tuition.

According to the ranking, which was released this week, Missouri Southern's out-of-state costs are less than in-state tuition at the majority of higher education institutions in the nation.

At most universities, the cost of tuition for out-of-state students is typically about twice what it would be for in-state students.

Under Missouri Southern's out-of-state tuition program (known as "Lion Pride Tuition"), students from surrounding states including Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and a large part of Illinois, can attend at the in-state tuition rate.

"Cost is just one factor in a university education," said Darren Fullerton, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.  "Students need to also consider the quality of the academic programs and student life that a campus has to offer. We are proud to say that Missouri Southern offers excellent academic programs and a great atmosphere for students."

Missouri Southern has an enrollment of approximately 5,600 students. The school offers over 100 academic majors and features outstanding programs in Teacher Education, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Communications, Law Enforcement, the sciences and other disciplines. The University celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012-2013.

Missouri Southern has 70 campus organizations. The MSSU Lions play in NCAA Division II and in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Other schools on the U.S. News Campus list included Minot (ND) State University, West Texas A&M University, Bemidji (MN) State University, Mayville (ND) State University, Northern State (SD) University, Midwestern State (TX) University, Louisiana State University-Alexandria, South Dakota State University, and the University of South Dakota.
