Some Webb City middle school students toured Missouri American Water's Joplin water treatment plant on Thursday.
It's part of a session on water quality and water treatment.
The students learned about where the water comes from, how it's treated and delivered to customers in the Joplin area.
"I think it's important for them to know all the steps just because they take a lot of things for granted at their age," says Webb City summer school teacher Stephany Pace. "They think about themselves first and foremost and to think there's lots of people working to keep them safe and healthy is something that now at least in the back of their mind they will think about."
The program is funded by a grant from the Missouri American Water's environmental grant program.
