Night golf tournament raises more than $11,000 for United Way

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE UNITED WAY OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI & SOUTHEAST KANSAS

Joplin, MO – Local companies teamed up to host a unique night golf tournament to benefit the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas earlier this month and raise money to support 35 local social service non-profits. The inaugural Nine at Night event took place at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club Friday June 7th, and was attended by more than 65 area golfers. Players had the opportunity to play a traditional scramble for the first nine holes, followed by dinner and a glow-in-the-dark scramble after dusk.

Due to the great support of sponsors and tournament participants, United Way announced they raised more than $11,000 at the first-annual event, and is happy to announce their second annual event is planned for June 6, 2014.

Winners of this year's event were: 1st Place - Crossland Construction; 2nd Place – AMI Radio Group; and 3rd Place – City of Pittsburg, KS.

Some of this year's auction items include: autographed sports items from University of Kansas, University of Oklahoma, Kansas State University, and University of Missouri; St. Louis Cardinal baseball tickets, a signed photograph of Tiger Woods, a guided duck hunt, and a variety of tools and items from local businesses.

Tournament sponsors this year included McCarthy Building Companies, AMI Radio Group – KKOW, Joplin Building Material Company, and Missouri Eagle, LLC.
