KDOT testing highway pavement strength



Starting Monday, July 1 andcontinuing through Wednesday, July 3, the Kansas Department of Transportation(KDOT) will run tests of pavement strength on the following routes in Allen,Neosho and Labette counties: U.S. 169, U.S. 59 and U.S. 166.

The testing crew uses a falling weight deflectometer (FWD), a device equippedwith a series of weights that checks the strength of asphalt pavement. KDOTconducts FWD tests every year on different sections of the state highwaysystem.

A pilot car operation will be used for traffic control at each testing site.Motorists will experience delays of 15 minutes or less. KDOT remindsall drivers to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and drivingthrough the testing zones.
