More than 70 volunteers spent hours on Shoal Creek picking up debris in Joplin and Galena on Saturday as part of an annual clean up with the Department of Conservation.
Last year more than 2,000 pounds of trash was collected, along with 60 tires.
"If we trash it we have to live with the consequences and trash is something that is not good for the environment and we can recycle and put that stuff back to good use," says Kevin Badgley, Community Outreach Specialist for the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Materials will be recycled if possible.
This was the fourth year for the event.
