Motorcycle ride raises money for kids with muscular dystrophy

Updated:

Four State residents heard the roar of hundreds of motorcycles on Sunday.  Participants in the "Ride For Life Event" in Joplin included riders from the Joplin Police Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The cyclists traveled from Joplin to Oklahoma to raise money for children suffering from muscular dystrophy to attend summer camps.

The ride kicked off with a special blessing of the bikes before they hit the streets.  Officials say there's more to bikers than the rough and tough exterior.

"Why not bikers?" says Lacey Goins of Joplin.  "Bikers have some of the biggest hearts and are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.  They just really come out every year and they continue to give and they're just a fantastic group of people."

One rider was Emily Crabtree, who will be attending Camp Windemer thanks to the money raised from the ride.

"I would like to thank all the bikers for sending me to summer camp," Emily told us.
