Joplin city council to discuss local use tax proposals

Monday night the Joplin city council will hear a presentation on a proposed local use tax for motor vehicles.

Prior to last year local governments collected taxes on such things as cars, boats and trailers based on the buyer's address regardless of where the item was purchased.

But the Missouri Supreme Court ruled sales taxes can not be collected by local governments on out-of-state purchases unless a local use tax is in place.

Tonight on KOAM News at 10 we'll have details from tonight's council discussion local use tax proposals.
