National Alliance on Mental Illness moving its offices in Joplin

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS:

In order to better serve the community, NAMI Joplin(National Alliance on Mental Illness) announces that they have moved theiroffices to 219 W. 2nd Street in Joplin.

NAMI Joplin is a nonprofit organizationdedicated to breaking the stigma associated with mental illness and providinginformation, encouragement, education, and support opportunities to consumers(those afflicted with brain disorders), their families, mental health careproviders and the community in Joplin, Missouri and the surroundingarea.

NAMI holds weekly support groups for consumers, and supportgroups for families dealing with adult consumers and parents of children andadolescents. 

NAMI Joplin also provides FREEeducation to families of adult consumers, parents of children and adolescents,and consumers.  There is also training available for mental health carefront line staff.

NAMI Joplin has trained consumerswho are available to speak at community events to tell in their own words aboutliving with mental illness, their experiences and their path to recovery.

    Tuition is still going up at Missouri Southern State University, but it's tweaking the cost increase to credit hours to avoid a state fine. Missouri Southern's Board of Governors approved a 15 percent increase in student tuition last April, upping credit hours by $30.
